AUTO-MOTIVE Theatre

This tight set of objects employs self-motility from curved profiles and centers of gravity that promotes performance. While exploring ideas of reconfiguration and balance for the bandshell type while avoiding expensive electromechanical means, a subdivision of a closed structural cube into three disparate pieces of geometry was realized.

Named Martina, Raul, and Ziggy Stardust, each characters is independently mobilebut part of a larger assembly held in dynamic equilibrium. Moving away from each other enables the masses to roll itself open for performance. In its different stages, the Auto-Motive questions the fixity of the bandshell typology by reconfiguring the spatial boundaries of the performers and audience.
