HOUSE OF MANY MANSIONS

What happens in the physical world does not need to be replicated in the digital. There are modalities in each that can surpass or transform the other.

House of Many Mansions is a series of projects that explores the experiential compression of space and digital placemaking. Three technical demonstrations and three “galleries” for fictional characters illustrate various means to enrich the experience of virtual environments. Using techniques derived from game design, the spaces depicted in House of Many Mansions are overlaid, distorted, and made interactive via a real-world interface.

First Demo shows 3 spaces which exist within the same bounds, Second Demo depicts 2 tunnels whose interiors differ from their exteriors, and Third Demo consists of an open-ended controller allowing a user to interface with virtual space via Arduino.

The Gallery for Ofelia is an ennead of rooms whose relationships are in constant flux, Gallery for Zampano is a collection of connected spaces, all constrained within a small perimeter, and Gallery for Jose Buendia is an infinite series of repeating rooms whose interiors are given shape by an external user.
